StarTrek Theme and more...

Journal Entry: Tue Feb 24, 2009, 4:05 PM
Long time no entry,

The official Star Trek Windows XP Theme

It may seem i'm inactive, but there was actually a lot going on behind the scenes in the past months. One big milestone for me was when I got a request to do be part of the production of a desktop theme for hyperdesk. As you will notice if you pay them a visit at [link] they have just released the official Star Trek Windows XP Theme, for which i designed the background images for the wallpapers. That was a neat experience! I can not upload any high resolution images of the pictures due to copyright laws, but i got the permission to upload watermarked small versions here on DA, so go to my gallery and tell me what you think :).

My Canon, My Holidays

Currently I'm in my holidays and recently spent 10 Days in Wales, where I got the chance to test out my new Canon Eos 350D. I noticed i'll inevitably have to buy a tripod if I want to get any good quality stuff out of this. I'd also like some lenses, but 500 or more € is a lot of money for someone who is just beginning to learn photography, so i'm gonna stick with the not very good standart lense for now. I actually did a pretty nice panorama shot from the gath already, but forgot the file in wales. The garth is the hill from the movie "the englishman who climbed up a hill and came down a mountain". No matter though, all the more reason to give it another shot and see if i can improve the result.

Work Experience

I'm also currently looking for media-design agencies to do work semester for my practical semester which is coming up in august/september. I'm currently sending out applications, but havn't gotten any awnsered yet :-/. If you can think of a place either in the U.S., Australia or Germany where i could apply i'd be glad to take your input. I need to get all the contacts i can :).

My brand new Wacom

What else. Well the recession is upon us all and i don't mean to mock anybody in any way, but for me it turned out pretty nice, cause the exchange rate from pound to euro is very much to my favour right now. So i bought myself a Wacom Intuos 3 A5 wide. Buying it from amazon UK meant i got it for about 60€ cheaper than i would have in germany. I've been trying it out the past few days and it's so kickass!! So yeah. I have a new Camera and a Wacom. I feel pretty equippet ^^.
The Luminarium Section
Next Luminarium Exhibit

I recently joined the Luminarium, so from now on everything converning news about that i'll put in this little section. I'm not sure how often that will be... I missed out on the last Exhibit which was pretty soon after I joined. But the next Exhibit is coming up pretty soon and I have two pictures already that i will submit to the pack. It feels really good to have gotten some work done, that isn't actual work :)

The theme will be announced very soon i believe, so i'll not give anything specific away yet, but from what i have seen so far the exhibit is gonna contain some really nice stuff. Keep you eyes open!

Also somethign not directly related to The Luminarium but nice to mention also here is that ^gucken and ^taenaron have been made gallery directors for Space-Art here on DA. So far they have been Daily Deviating like mad. So yeah, it's good to give Space-Art some exposure right? Congratulations to you both!

The most fantastic work in her gallery are without doubt her pencil drawings. I can't say more than that, you'll have to go and see for yourself. It's inspiring.

Well...that explains the three deviations you submitted today. It's rare to see most space artists submit even three deviations in 6 months let alone one day

I got my Wacom onlyy last November and it took little over a week to get comfortable enough to create my first fully tablet-draw deviation. I can't believe I went so long without one, but space-art is really one of the few forms of digital art that can still be done comfortably with a mouse. But things like actual digital painting, especially guys like me who do characters from time to time - really benifit from having one.

The recession is working in my favour too now  with no job to lose (though I have to find one) and a proposed $900 free spending money from the Australia Government that I should get in a couple of months

Why is delivering things by car called "shipment" while delivering things by ship called "cargo"?

Very cool, I saw the theme and loved it, but I'm not really willing to pay for a theme that would barely affect my desktop the way I have it set up :p
They look awesome in the previews though.

There's a reason that little guy looks so oblivious.

Congratulations on the new camera! There are some awesome photography tutorials on dA, so I'm sure you'll be learning how to take awesome photographs in no time.

Cool dude, souns great you got things going on the side like that.

A wacom is sureley a good equipment needed around here, combine that with your camera and you got yourself a pretty good deal :D.
