Badlands by Baro Badlands by Baro
This is my submission to the Terraspace Contest by [link]. Go give them a visit and a watch!

I tried one or two new things in this one, so i dare say it isn't all perfection, but still one of the best terraspace projects i have done up to now.

I wanted a real panorama view in this one so i stiched the landscape together out of three terragen renders, go check the walkthrough [link] if you like. The view is not adjusted to the the gravity of the planet in whichs atmosphere you are, but in relation to the whole composition, that is why the horizon is tilted. I feel this way the planets, landscape, sky and space become equal elements.

The final product here reminds me of one of caspar david friedrichs paintings, of course not at such a high level and with less symbolism, but you can recognize the three zones, which are very typical for one of his paintings. Now please don't think I'm putting myself on a pedestal with such a great artist... O_o

Hmm whats left to say? Definitely go check out the other submissions.

Comments and :+fav:'s are truely appreciated.

Looks pretty cool, and I didn't notice those cracks until I full-viewed. The tornado also helps compliment the whole "bad" land scenery, and something thats not often seen in TerraSpace scenery.

NIICCEEE WORK! Great starfeild, rings, terragen, intergration, and planets! I also love the lava cracks! If you want to do a tutorial on something nobody has done yet to my knowledge, that would be a good one to do. (still can't figure out how to do them)

Very nice work. This really is nice. Original idea having a "space vortex" type tornado looking thing on the world the viewer is stood on. Don't see that very often. Nicely done!

Very nice work here.

This image is very expressive. The mood of the work has been executed very well. The light, smokey mist settling in the foreground eluding to the scene in the background...

This is great work. Scale, lighting, and realism is definately a top notch effort in this image.

Well done. And welcome to my Favs.

Nice entry here. I really like the terrain work here, although I think it could benefit from a little bit more light, at least at the back of it. Generally, though, terrain looks great. Person is a nice touch too although could be a tad smaller.
I, also, don't like the tornado, although I think it is an important part of the piece, Without it, the piece doesn't have the element of excitement and conflict needed, but this tornado needs to be more devastating, I think. I think also, there needs to be something for the tornado to destroy, otherwise it's a little strange that there is a tornado, and a large man standing kind of near it, with no apparent reason.
the 2 big planets look good, but the cracks in the main one I feel don't give the right scale. They look too much like mud cracks, over a planet of continents. The small planet at the bottom left is distracting, I think you should take that out.
I like it, could use a little more work, but on the whole I think this is one of the better entries to this contest. Well done

well i did do some editing on it. maybe you like one or the other thing better now. you're right the person was too big. anyway i had the landscape somewhat lighter till near the end of process but it helps to flip the scene once in a while to view it with an "innocent eye"... from that point of view the landscape definitely looked to light so i changed it and like it that way. the tornado is of course the trickiest object in this one. but i wonna take it slow and not mess up the picture too much by trying to paint in some defastation. also i don't think it needs any. it may be big but i don't think it really needs to be ripping stuff apart. think of it more like a sandspout thats kicking up dirt in the air. maybe tornado wasn't the best word for it. but you are right it does leave room for improvement.

hm the cracks... well you got me :P. i used photos of mud cracks as reference. thought about taking them out of the picture, but even though they distract you from the planet texture i think they compliment the composition. getting cracks the way you want them is a surprisingly tuff chalange. i'll try to improve on that aswell :).

the small planet... i guess some will like it some won't, so i'm not gonna erase it. anyway thx a lot for your critique and the cind words, both are hugely appreciated!!! looking forward to more of your stuff :D. cya around.
